Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Jazz Half Marathon?

The Jazz Half Marathon is the standard half marathon distance: 13 miles, 577 feet and 6 inches. The half-marathon is usually approximated as 13.1 miles or 21 kilometers.

Do you have an elevation map of the course?

No. The course, like most of New Orleans, is flat and approximately at sea level. No hill training required!

Can I wear my iPod or headphones in the race?

Wearing ear buds or headphones can distract your attention from what is going on around you and make it hard for you to hear announcements or instructions from race officials and law enforcement personnel on the course, not to mention your fellow participants. Out of concern for your safety on the course and the experiences of the other participants we strongly suggest that you leave your personal music devices at home or in your gear check bag.

Is it okay to push a stroller/walk or run with my pet/wear roller blades or skates on the course?

No strollers, pets, or roller blades or skates will be allowed on the course. There will be too many people around you to allow mechanical devices or your leashed four-legged friends on the course. The safety of all participants is our primary concern.

Is the Jazz Half Marathon walker-friendly?

Absolutely. Walkers are welcome to participate. You will need to maintain a generous pace of 18 minutes per mile to take advantage of the amenities along the course. If you do not keep up with this pace you can continue but will be asked to move to the sidewalks as traffic control will no longer be in place. The course will close on a rolling basis, for example an aid station that is four miles out will begin to shut down one hour and twelve minutes after the start of the race (18 minutes x 4 miles = 1:12).
